Descriptions of the Chevrolet Aveo 1.2 engine. Weaknesses of the Chevrolet Aveo, what with reliability from operating experience. An excursion into the history of Aveo

The Chevrolet Aveo T250 began production in 2006. It replaced the T200 model and received a more modern body. The equipment generally remains the same, however, the technical characteristics have improved. The attractive design, especially compared to the previous version, made an impression, and the new Aveo quickly won a wide audience of buyers. It became one of the favorites in the market and still sells well to this day. In ten years, the car has managed to prove itself, so you and I have the opportunity to consider it from a practical point of view, based on the experience of the owners.

general characteristics

"Aveo T250" is made in three versions. The most popular of them is the 5-door sedan. There is also a hatchback, with three and five doors. The model is assembled in China, Korea, Poland and Ukraine. Chinese cars assembled at a GM subsidiary received the highest ratings from owners. Chinese-assembled models are distinguished primarily by a 1.6-liter engine and good equipment. Minor differences include a body-colored grille, a chrome trim strip between the taillights, and wood trim throughout the cabin. Chinese versions are made using the sedan body type.

Body

Compared to the previous version, the Chevrolet Aveo T250 has a more corrosion-resistant body. However, anti-corrosion treatment is very appropriate, as on any other budget car. Unfortunately, the metal from which the body is made is very soft. Just pushing the car can leave a dent in it. As for the optics, on some cars they are not sealed enough, resulting in fogging of the headlights. Basically, this is where the weak points of the Aveo T250 sedan end. "Aveo T200" had a serious drawback - a weak weld seam securing the shelf between the cups of the rear pillars. In the second generation this defect was corrected.

Salon

The interior of the Aveo T250 is similar to its older brother, but has a lot of useful improvements. The Chinese version has a beige finish, while all others have a dark gray finish. Light finishes look more expressive, but they are very impractical and need to be handled with extreme care. The interior is trimmed with hard, but not creaky, plastic. Due to the wide side pillars, there is not enough visibility when cornering. The sound insulation of the body is frankly rather weak. In the back row, passengers of average height can fit quite comfortably, however, three of them will be cramped. Compared to its closest competitor - Daewoo Lanos, the Aveo T250's interior is narrower, and the backs of the rear row seats are more vertical. But the seat position is a little higher. The luggage compartment has a volume of 320 liters, which is small compared to competitors.

Engine

All Chevrolet Aveo T250 models are equipped with gasoline engines. The most common of them is a 1.5-liter, 8-valve unit, which has proven itself well in the last generation of cars. With proper operation, it can be used without major repairs for up to 500 thousand km. However, it happens that after 200 thousand mileage the rocker arms move out of their working position due to wear of the hydraulic compensators. Therefore, when valves knock, it is necessary to check the hydraulic compensators and, if necessary, replace them. In the cars of those who like to drive at high speeds, the camshaft gasket and oil seal may lose their tightness over time.

The Chinese 1.6-liter engine can have both in-line and V-shaped cylinders. Its main advantage is higher power with almost the same appetite as the 1.5-liter engine. This motor also did not reveal any serious “illnesses”, so you can safely buy it. There is only one typical problem - a leaking valve cover gasket.

The timing belt of both engines needs to be changed along with the rollers every 6 thousand kilometers. But the pump, which is driven by this same belt, lasts twice as long.

The car has a fairly substantial appetite - about 10 liters per 100 km, which is why many owners install LPG on it. As practice shows, engines powered by gas units last no worse than those powered by gasoline. Tuning the Aveo T250 makes it possible to improve the performance of the engine, but usually it is not resorted to.

Transmission

The lion's share of cars in this model are equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission. There will be no more than 20% of cars with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Both boxes suffer from poor sealing of the axle shaft seals and the crunching sound of the outer grenades. Therefore, sometimes these elements have to be changed. Otherwise, both gearboxes are quite reliable. The manufacturer has successfully eliminated several problems that were typical in the previous version of the car. The clutch has a hydraulic drive, which deserves only one comment - the noise of the release bearing.

Suspension

The chassis has high energy consumption and copes well with defects on our roads. However, during sharp maneuvering, the body tilts noticeably. Therefore, the car is more suitable for measured driving.

The design of the Aveo T250 suspension is similar to the previous version - independent McPherson strut in front and semi-independent beam in the rear. The suspension is well adapted to our realities and lasts quite a long time. can serve for a distance of up to 50 thousand km, but the silent blocks of the front levers, ball joints and usually withstand a mileage of up to 100 thousand km.

Steering and braking system

The Aveo T250 steering wheel is equipped with a hydraulic booster. This unit is sometimes susceptible to leakage of the steering shaft oil seal. Even less often, wear of the power steering is observed, which is manifested by a characteristic knocking sound. Steering ends last 60-80 thousand km, and rods last up to 100 thousand. The brake system works flawlessly, however, sometimes it breaks down.

Conclusion

This car deservedly received the status of one of the sales leaders in the post-Soviet budget car market. Aveo combines reasonable cost, reliability, adaptability to our roads and inexpensive maintenance. The car is well suited for any audience of budget buyers. It is moderately modern and looks better than some of its competitors. Easy tuning of the Aveo T250 will make the car even more interesting and forget about the desire to change the car for several years.

In 2012, production of the Chevrolet Aveo T250 model was discontinued. The price of a car on the secondary market today is from 5 thousand dollars. But the history of the car does not end there, because since 2012 it has been produced in Ukraine under the name Apart from the name, nothing has changed in the car. The new Vida costs about 12 thousand dollars.

I bought the car from friends, who in turn purchased it at the dealership. Before this I had experience driving very different cars. About the advantages. The interior design greatly outperforms competitors in the same price category. There is plenty of space in front, but this comes at the expense of a lack of space in the back. The design of the torpedo is very successful, including the location of the buttons, built-in MP3 radio, and instrument panel. Sound insulation for this price category is very good. Over the entire operating experience, the only chassis I changed were the stabilizer struts (300 rubles per piece), front pads (800 rubles per pair) and shock absorber mounts (500 rubles per non-original piece).

Now about the cons. The wheelbase is narrow in relation to the height of the body, which, combined with a simple suspension, gives significant roll when cornering at high speeds. The quality of the interior materials leaves much to be desired, mainly complaints about the door upholstery (the paint creaks and wears off from the handles). The engine is frankly rather weak (acceleration dynamics), so you have to rev the engine up to 3500 rpm so that there are no failures when switching. Therefore, there can be no talk of any profitability. In the urban cycle 10 liters without exaggeration.

At 45,000, the radiator leaked because a factory defect in the plastic casing that sits on it led to rubbing of the honeycomb. This is a disease, but I found out about it a little late. Although it is enough to place gaskets under the casing mounting bolts so that there is a gap between it and the radiator. Nevertheless, 4000 rubles. radiator. The EGR valve gasket burned out in the secondary gas processing system, I couldn’t find it, but following the advice of “experienced” people, I made a plug instead of a gasket from a piece of sheet aluminum and didn’t regret it, the car began to run smoother. This system is needed only for the environment, it does not affect the course.

At 40,000 the 1st and 5th speeds stopped turning on. I thought I hit the box. I decided to figure it out myself and found out that the problem was not in the box, but in the levers that stand on it and transmit the movement of the lever to the gearbox. One of the levers was worn out and simply eaten away. The repair is not complicated, I just welded it on, sharpened it and put it in place. But the very fact that this happens on an almost new car is depressing. I can imagine how much they would have scammed me at the service... I hasten to reassure you that on the 1.4 and 1.6 engines the gearbox is different.

Due to its low power, the engine is very sensitive to bad gasoline. And his is the majority. But in order not to cloud the idea of the car as a whole, I will say that the body is galvanized and not bad, I checked it myself, because scratched and left for the winter without painting. The brakes are excellent, they failed only once when I managed to brake, but the girl behind me didn’t. ABS cannot be switched off, the car is light, so in winter there is only one rule - keep your distance. That seems to be it. If it weren't for these ridiculous repairs, the impression of the car would be good.

We bought a car for my wife. Hands-on, the speedometer shows 12,000 km. Before that there was a Mercedes C 180 1995 for two. I’ll say right away that I still can’t get used to it. What can I say, heaven and earth. Budget car.

1. Appearance: Beautiful. Attractive. Aggressive with a kick. Recognizable.

2. Internal volume: Requires praise.

3. Interior: Noble and worthy of its price.

4. Trunk: Good volume. One minus is that the arcs on which the lid is held “enter” the trunk space and thus do not allow bulky items to be placed. Clearances are required for these arcs.

5. Engine: torquey, although up to a speed of 120 km (volume 1.2), then it’s unpleasant.

6. Control: at low speeds it holds the road well, after 90 km/h you have to catch on the ruts.

7. Gearbox: normal gearbox, with comfortable shifting.

8. Tomosa: good brakes, but I can’t compare them with Mercedes ones. It's more comfortable there.

9. Winter starting is beyond praise. One minus - the frozen gearbox in the hydraulic booster whistles. For some reason they pour thick oil there. It whistles for about 10 minutes, then goes away.

10. When it’s cold in the car, you can’t say that it’s hot, but this may be because the cabin filter has not been changed. And the fan blows very well.

1. The front struts get in the way when cornering. You can't see anything at all. Even when passing pedestrians, you have to move your body back and forth in order to inspect the area behind the counter. A couple of times I almost ran over a pedestrian. You can't see him from behind the counter.

2. Noise insulation: out of 10 points 6. The wheels can be heard very well. The noise outside the window (street noise) is very well muffled. On a long journey, the noise of the wheels is simply tiresome. (again in comparison with Mercedes) it’s completely quiet there. You can speak in a whisper.

3. Engine. This is one irritation. I will never buy a car with a weak engine again. I myself am a mechanical engineer, I guessed that the weak engine was a marketing ploy, but I didn’t think it was that bad. In a word - do not buy a car with a 1.2 liter internal combustion engine. The consumption on my Mercedes, which weighed 1.5 tons and had a volume of 1.8 liters, consumed 8-9 liters in the combined cycle, 7-8 liters outside the city. This same Aveo eats the same amount, no less, and at a speed of more than 120 km/h, gluttony increases. I talked with Aveo drivers with 1.4 liter engines. The consumption is really economical.

4. The suspension just irritates me, spoiled by Mercedes comfort. It’s simply not pleasant to feel every convolution as your fifth point. Before Mercedes, I had two VAZ Sevens. I also drove them around Russia, and the comfort of the Seven’s suspension is an order of magnitude higher than the comfort of the Aveo’s suspension.

Conclusion. The car is good. It is worth the money and still finds its buyers today. For those who are planning to buy it, I advise you not to buy it with a 1.2 liter engine. No savings, just expense. The engine has to be constantly revved up. As a result, its resource is reduced and fuel consumption increases. At 1.2 liters, the balance of power and weight of the car is disturbed (1.3 tons). At 1.4 it is more correct.

If you drove on hard suspensions, there will be no problems with adaptation, but you cannot remove the front strut anywhere - it will interfere with you. Although I was thinking, my height is 180 cm, for those who are shorter it may not bother me. On the other hand, my wife also complains that she can’t see anything, and she is 168 cm tall.

Look, choose.

Good luck on the roads.

Chevrolet Aveo is a popular B-class city sedan, which over the 15 years of its existence has become a real “people's” Russian car.

The car appeared on domestic roads at the turn of 2003-2004 and since then has continued to delight fans of the subcompact sedan segment with the highest quality and reasonable price.

An excursion into the history of Aveo

ATTENTION! A completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption has been found! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also didn’t believe it until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline!

Chevrolet Aveo has gone through an amazing history of creation and development. The car was invented in the USA, where it appeared on the roads in 2003, becoming a replacement for the obsolete Chevrolet Metro. Only 2 years later the car entered the European market, as well as in Oceania and Africa. The car is being produced by the American auto giant General Motors based on a project by Giorgetto Giugiaro, who at that time headed the famous Italian car studio ItalDesign.

The peak of popularity of the B-segment occurred in the 90s of the last century. The leader among subcompact hatchbacks in those years was the Chevrolet Metro, but by the mid-00s its design and technical side had actually become obsolete. General Motors did not plan to leave the market, so a new stylish car was developed, in the commercial success of which few at first believed. Time has shown that this is one of the most successful cars in the entire history of the automaker.

Aveo is not always seen on the roads under its usual name. Producing cars under various brands is the signature style of General Motors. It is difficult to find a car from a company that is produced in all countries under the same name. All over the world you could find twins of the car under a variety of brands.

It is worth noting that the Chevrolet Aveo is known not only as a sedan. Initially, the car was conceived as a hatchback with five and three doors. However, buyers appreciated the sedan above other versions, so the second generation received an emphasis on this body type. The five-door hatchback continues to be produced, although its sales are several times lower. The three-door Aveo has been completely discontinued since 2012.

The first generation Aveo T200 lasted quite a long time: from 2003 to 2008. In 2006-2007, a restyling was carried out (version T250), support for which continued until 2012. At the turn of 2011 and 2012, the market saw the second generation of the T300, which continues to be produced worldwide.

Aveo power units have no less interesting history than the car itself. The first and restyled generations of hatchbacks and sedans each received 4 types of installations, the second generation – 3 internal combustion engines.
The engines worked both manually and automatically, which always distributed torque to the front axle of the wheels. In this case, only gasoline was used as fuel. You can see them in the table below.

GM cars are always characterized by specific engines: for each region, the manufacturer develops unique power plants taking into account the specifics of the region. They often overlap: for example, the Ukrainian and Asian markets received identical lines, the European and Russian segments received 2 similar units.

Engines of the 1st generation

Happy owners of the first generation Aveo preferred to purchase cars with 1.4-liter engines. The advantage of these engines is that they offered relatively low fuel consumption with excellent power: with 94 “horses,” the car consumed an average of 9.1 liters in the city and 6 liters on the highway. Another advantage of the 1.4-liter unit was the opportunity to buy a version with an automatic transmission: automatic transmission was just appearing in Russia in the mid-00s, so buyers were happy to try the new automotive technology.

The 1.2-liter version was popular as the most budget-friendly solution. Economical consumption and the lowest cost in the model range at first attracted buyers, but later the choice of drivers fell on other engines. The 1.6-liter unit became slightly less popular than the 94-horsepower internal combustion engine, since it consumed noticeably more fuel, although it provided an increase in power of 12 “horses”.

Only the 83-horsepower 1.4-liter version failed, which turned out to be closer in parameters to the 1.2 MT at a higher price. It was released as an interim temporary package to demonstrate the car's capabilities. Naturally, the manufacturer did not count on widespread demand, so it was soon forced to replace it with a more advanced power unit.

The restyled line initially updated only the appearance of the cars, retaining all previous engine versions. After 2008, the technical side was also redesigned. The general structure of the aggregates remained the same, but the substantive differences turned out to be more than significant.
The first noticeable difference between a number of engines was a significant increase in service life, which manifested itself in an increase in power and torque. In addition, fuel consumption has decreased by an average of 2 liters per 100 km. For the same reasons as in the previous generation, 1.4-liter units have gained the most popularity.

The manufacturer has placed serious emphasis on processing the 1.2 MT engine. The power of the unit increased to 84 horsepower, the maximum speed to 170 km/h, while gasoline consumption decreased by an average of 1.1 liters. Such changes did not affect the price of the car, due to which the popularity of the economical version of the internal combustion engine increased sharply.

The disappointment of the restyled generation of engines was the transitional 1.5-liter unit. The power plant turned out to be quite weak, since 86 horsepower and 130 Nm of torque compared to the same 1.4-liter variation showed an order of magnitude lower performance. In addition, the average fuel consumption per 100 km was 8.6 liters in the city and 6.1 liters on the highway, which is prohibitively high even in comparison with 1.2 Mt.

The current generation of Chevrolet Aveo has received a completely redesigned line of power units. The main distinguishing feature was the transition to a new level of environmental class: we are, of course, talking about Euro 5. In this regard, the American automaker started talking about introducing some versions of diesel units, but it did not come to the point of putting such ideas into practice.

The weakest of all the variations was the 1.2-liter engine with 86 “horses,” which, according to tradition, was accompanied exclusively by mechanics. The installation turned out to be quite economical, since it spent an average of 7.1 liters in the city and 4.6 liters on the highway. It is worth noting that all 2nd generation cars received a detailed redesign of the transmission system, but a significant improvement in the quality of its operation became noticeable precisely in combination with the 1.2 MT engine.

A 1.4-liter internal combustion engine was also offered as a transitional model. With a power of 100 horsepower and a torque of 130 Nm, the unit demonstrated excellent performance in all conditions. A serious drawback was the engine’s gasoline consumption: for 9 liters in the city and 5.4 liters on the highway, the above parameters seemed disproportionately weak.

The most practical and, as a result, popular option was the 1.6-liter engine. The power plant is used in all trim levels, the production of which is carried out in Russia. The power of the unit is 115 horsepower with 155 Nm of torque. The engine has become more environmentally friendly, resulting in a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions to 167 g/km. Consumption on the highway decreased to 5.5 liters, in the city - to 9.9 liters, thanks to which buyers were able to get more power at lower costs.

Right choice

Over the 13 years of its presence on the European and Russian markets, Chevrolet Aveo has offered several generations and vehicle configurations. Practice has shown that the domestic buyer is very selective when it comes to power plants. The question of choosing the right unit depends on the driver’s expectations in terms of both performance and cost of the car.

It is best to buy a used Aveo of the first generation with a 1.4-liter engine. The unit is not subject to serious wear, unlike the 1.6 MT and AT versions, which show themselves to be less reliable over a long period of time. Despite all the shortcomings of the 1.2-liter engine, in a used car it will hardly perform noticeably worse than a new one. At the same time, the cost of the car will be very pleasant. These power plants are inexpensive to maintain, although due to the gradual disappearance of outdated components from the market, finding the necessary parts is becoming more difficult every year.

With restyled versions the picture is more rosy. You can purchase both 1.4 and 1.6 liter versions, while the latter should be considered from 2010 to avoid problems with increased wear. It is not recommended to purchase a “one and a half” engine, since even in new cars it has not shown itself to be very stable. Owners give excellent recommendations to the 1.2-liter engine. Improved engine architecture and excellent interaction with the transmission system are an excellent reason to take a closer look at the economical unit.

The purchase of second-generation used cars depends in most cases only on the care of the previous owner and his compliance with the requirements for technical inspection and operation. Of course, there is no need to buy a 1.2 MT if there are 1.4 and 1.6 liter versions. If you have enough money, it is best to take a closer look at the last of the proposed variations.

The new 2018 Aveos only come with 1.6-liter engines. Regardless of the functional configuration (LT or LTZ), the power units are identical, so for the buyer the question will be to choose between a manual and an automatic. In this case, the question, as a rule, is not posed from the perspective of fuel consumption: the decision depends only on habit and ease of use.

Price

Chevrolet Aveo has gained a lot of fans over its many years on domestic roads. Ergonomic appearance and functional equipment are by no means all the reasons for liking the car. Sedans and hatchbacks belong to the budget segment, which cannot but affect their popularity. The average price tag for new II generation models is 500-600 thousand rubles.

On average, a car loses 7% in price per year, which, given Aveo’s long history, provides a wide choice for any wallet. A 4-year-old sedan costs on average 440 thousand rubles, a car with 5 years of mileage costs 400 thousand. Older models lose about 30 thousand rubles in price per year. The attractive price reduction reflects the fact that buyers prefer good used cars over new factory models.

The engines of sedans and hatchbacks are the perfect combination of performance and efficiency. Each Aveo engine of different generations is good in its own way, so the final choice of car depends solely on the individual needs and preferences of the consumer.

Aveo was developed back in the days of Daewoo. In some markets, including Russian, it was offered under the Chevrolet brand.

Body

The car was produced in three body styles: 3- and 5-door hatchback and sedan. The latter was modernized in 2006, the hatchback only two years later. The developers failed to hide the outdated design. Proof of this was the results of crash tests according to Euro NCAP. The sedan was tested after restyling. The car earned only two stars, which, after stricter requirements, were reduced to one.

As a consolation, we can say that the Aveo is adequately protected from corrosion. True, the paint peels off on many specimens, but this does not contribute to the emergence of pockets of corrosion. The exception is the rear trunk door of a hatchback: brown spots appear around the lock and the strip above the number.

Equipment

All Aveos come standard with a driver airbag, a split-folding rear seat and a height-adjustable steering column. In addition, richer versions have 4 airbags, a music system that plays MP3 files, power steering, central locking and front electric windows. Air conditioning was installed only in the top-end LT trim level, and was available for an additional fee in other versions.

Suspension

Owners note the short lifespan of the suspension elements. However, it should be emphasized that it has a very simple design (McPherson in front, and a torsion beam in the rear) and the low cost of spare parts and repairs. A set of front levers will cost approximately 1,500-2,000 rubles, a set of front shock absorbers can be purchased for less than 2,500 rubles, and rear shock absorbers for 1,000 rubles. All spare parts are always in stock, including original ones from large wholesalers.

Engines

The Chevrolet Aveo was offered only with gasoline engines. Unfortunately, none of them are economical. Even the youngest 1.2-liter engine with 72 hp. consumes about 8.5 liters of gasoline in the city. Therefore, it is worth paying attention to engines with a displacement of 1.4 and 1.6 liters - they at least provide acceptable dynamics.

All Aveo power units have hydraulic valve lash compensators, and the 16-valve 1.2 liter has a timing chain drive. The vast majority of owners do not complain about the reliability and durability of the motors. True, if you do not take into account minor problems with the ignition system.

Much more inconvenience is caused by the delicate clutch of a manual transmission (the cost of a new one is about 3,000 rubles), and besides, the bearings in the gearbox wear out quickly. In the latter case, it is often more advisable to purchase a used box for 4000-5000 rubles.

Conclusion

The first generation Chevrolet Aveo does not deserve much attention. Many competitors offer better levels of safety and comfort. But, if someone is looking for a cheap and well-maintained car, then this option should not be discounted. A well-equipped Aveo from the first owner with low mileage and at an attractive price is a tempting offer.

Typical faults and problems

Rapid wear of suspension elements. Fortunately, repairs are very cheap.

Light bulbs often burn out. The problem concerns, first of all, low beam and dimensions. In a sedan, access to them is difficult: the easiest way to get there is to remove the headlight.

Poor quality of paintwork: the paint soon chips, but the body does not bloom in places where it is chipped.

Wear of floor covering.
